Shannon Tamarri's PledgePage
On November 17, 2001 I will be participating in a 100 mile cycling event as a memeber of The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society's Team in Training.
As a member of Team in Training I will be working towards the Leukemia & Lyphoma Society's mission "to curing leukemia, lymphoma, Hodgkin's disease and myeloma, and improving the quality of life for patients and their families". Over the past few weeks I have recieved mixed reactions to my committment to the Team in Training. Everything from "I think you are nuts" to "I am so proud of you" to "I didn't know you knew anyone with Leukemia or Lymphoma". The truth is until I joined the program I did not know anyone who was stricken with any of those diseases. I can't pin point the reason why I decided to join Team in Training other then I wanted to significantly impact someone's life. Do something truly meaningful, and challenge myself both mentally and physically. The more I read about the Team in Training and the diseases The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society is seeking to cure I knew this was my opportunity to truly touch someone's life. I now know someone suffering from acute lymphocytic leukemia (ALL), Martin, who is my patient hero and who I will ride in honor of. Martin is nine years old and has been battling acute lymphocytic leukemia (ALL) for the past six years. Acute lymphocytic leukemia is the leading form of childhood leukemia, representing 85% of leukemia in patients under 21 years of age. Martin has four brothers and one sister and loves watching Disney movies and playing ball. He will serve as my source of inspiration and motivation as the training becomes more intense and the rides longer. I have set my fundraising goal for $3600 by November 1, 2001. Donations will go towards patient aid and finding a cure for leukemia, lymphoma, and other blood-related cancers. I would love to know that I am cycling with all of my friends and family in spirit as I cross the finish line Please take a moment and donate because every dollar brings us all closer to a cure! I will keep this page updated so you all can track my training and fundraising progress as the event nears. Please feel free to contact me via email if you have any questions regarding Team in Training or The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society. I will also be wearing honoree bracelets during my event. If you would like me to ride in honor or memory of someone who has/had Leukemia, Lymphoma, or Hodgkin's disease please email me. Be sure to check out my diary and sign the guestbook! Love, Shannon |
